When all the current rhetoric lies in the dust
Old as bleached bones; then I shall be content.
When greed is seen to be abhorrent as slavery
I shall know that the difference has been made
But it shall not be this day that sense prevailed
Light fully pyres of discord among us and watch
Your malice of memory passing away to nought
Forgetting all shall be scorched a thousand years
By what comes to pass now in this cabal of greed

Reports of our drowning have been greatly exaggerated – but it was very wet. I don’t think I ever remember such a miserable June. I’ve reverted to sleeping in pyjamas at night like it is January. But the trees love it and all the native plants grow well and stand proud against the wind and the rain. These foxgloves were the brightest things i could find yesterday.

The solstice is seen through greying gloom
There is no sun, there is no moon
For the longest day has come and gone
In this year for another there is no room

Day shall give way to night and it will scatter the stars across the water like pearls to make a trail of cosmic light to guide the ships home. For though the world now closes in about us, the spirit of past deeds, lingers like ghosts at dusk. They haunt the night air and pervade uneasy dreams till the sun rises high and new in a dawn sky. Yet the warmth of the fresh day is no use; the world has changed and our hearts are left in the past to wonder; how did it all come to this?

Lost

A Native American Elder was asked, “What shall we do if we get lost?” He replied...

Stand still. The trees before you and the bushes beside you are not lost. Wherever you are is a place called here and you must treat it as a powerful stranger both asking to know and be known. Listen. The forest whispers, “I have made this place, you can leave and return once again saying, here.” No two trees are the same to Raven, no two branches the same to Wren.

If what a tree or a branch does is lost on you, you are truly lost. Stand still. Listen. The forest knows where you are. Let it find you.

Laboured breath wanes and takes reward in sight and sound
As a beautiful view is gained from atop a rising, emerald mound
A small insignificant eye is watching under a shimmered brow
To survey with quiet alarm a world with its heart and soul lost now

Soft, hearkening footsteps tread between wall and sea
Or run carefree down hills that lead us away to dreams
I have yet to see the dawn in winter rising so elegantly
As today, when the birds bid me to prosper into warmth
Yet forgoing its sweetness I crash headlong into despair
For the world now takes me away and you are not there

Classic Wisteria impeccably trained on a house in Clitheroe

Just been watching a programme with Ina Garten called “the Barefoot Contessa.” Interesting woman I think. From White House nuclear advisor, to shop owner, to celebrity cook. Seems to have a very desirable and privileged life in the Hamptons and if nothing else; she looks like a woman who actually enjoys food and cooking...can’t say fairer than that. It’s full fat all the way with Ina literally! I even tried one of her recipes for lemon chicken and I have to say it was truly disgusting. Quite the vilest thing I have ever eaten. So either I got the recipe wrong or the recipe was crap. I don’t think I or Nick got the recipe wrong so.....
We had the 2 fat ladies here in the UK for a time and for me it is more enjoyable anyway to watch mumsy women cooking. She got a lot of bad press last year over refusing a dying boy a wish but I’ll take all that with a pinch of salt. She seems way to astute to knowingly miss an opportunity like that.
