Nights Breath

Wet grass now moist
Coated in nights breath
As we lie spent
Coated in the dew of ardour
In lieu of today now be still
Whisper not sweet parting
When the sun now must rise
Into mornings heady bloom
And the world is ours
For one more day till night

Cachet

All the winds circling the world
Would not stir one leaf
Clinging to your autumn hair
For time has no memory here.
Nothing that you did
Can come to any effect
You will remain always my love
The cachet of my noble intent

The Fish

There’s a fish in my pond
Thinks I don’t see him, but I do
There he will stay through winter
Hiding within sour leaves
That fell like rain
In the autumn breezes
And he is content
In a mantle of humus
To wrap him warm

There’s a fish in my pond
Thinks I don’t see him, but I do
There he will stay through winter
Watches water freeze above
Into silvered stained glass
Held in green leaded frame
And he is content
To endure till spring
Softer than a whispered lie

There’s a fish in my pond
Thinks I don’t see him, but I do
There he will stay through winter
And his heart beats slowly
In time to the heron’s wings
A beat to descend and muffle
Orange eyes of desire, espy him
And he is not content
For he lies within a watery grave

Bloom

That bloomed in all peaceful days
In the west the calyx of splendour
Soft, rose-scented velveteen; fades
Petals fall and drift to histories floor
But so open the new red blossoms
Rolled-up petals of modernity; unfolding
Brightening all the Orient with hope
But of thorny stems that grow apace
Matching hopes flowers in spiteful thorn
What buds shall they bear us?
And will beauty be even a care
When they open fully into day

Space

For you but one site
But it is the centre
Of my universe
This is my liberty
Where I may arise
And move the world
Just a little
If it will let me
I never forget that

Blowing

One face cannot weather every storm
In a short game of generational moves
To a permanent state of higher elation
I wander not because I am ever lost
But because the world hides it message
That no flower may withhold its beauty
Not if the tempest comes without rain
Only air washes away solidifying time
On windy bluster, desiccating ecstasy
It is after all, sport played over decades
And I played it well for the most part
Not you, or nature, or others can do harm
Becoming unloved; takes longer than a lifetime.

Times' Sting

Ah, but do not be so harsh on this so human quality
He so keenly feels time’s ignoble sting upon his body
Time may usurp desire; sing its closing bars at evensong
Yet eventuality does not beckon hither a reckless want
So we will waive the night and make of a day infinity
And time may wait for us to clap his epigrammatic song

Weeds

Weeds take ill from the soil
And yet flourish in adversity
Vigorous on meagre sustenance
Self-reliant and tough to the core
They resist all damage and abuse
They show us
We can overcome anything
If the desire to survive is strong

Shame

Like the phases of the moon.
To each is measured infamy
In me it waxes a regretful crescent
Held in place by only gravity
A scimitar of arrhythmic dreams
That rides above my tiny intent
This fixed point in time and space
A cyclical mother lode of dreams
Forever resisting forces of attraction

Lottery

I’m really quite expectant; but not in any way a seer
But I think my luck is changing with fortune very near
And all I need are six numbers to bring about good cheer
So wish me luck, and just in case, that I’m not very clear
Your tune will change to wedding bells, if I’m very rich dear
With all that lovely lolly I’ll almost become a noble peer
With champagne booze aplenty, to lubricate a dry year
I know you don’t believe me; for gossip around me I do hear
But the lottery phoned me up today if you’d like to shed a tear
I got the six lucky winning numbers to chase away all my fear

This type of poem is called a ‘monorhyme’ because it has a single rhyme sound

Laughing Catalyst

There is no peace yet
Only the...
Laughter of ghosts
Spectres of chance
That mock humanity
From safer shores
But if one vision...becomes
A catalyst of hope
And solidifies into peace
They are undone
The shadowy fiends
Become utterly lost
Dissipate into history
Where they may stay...
Dim apparitions of legend
But no more real than that

Enlightenment

For here it is; a whole New Year to explore
What time and tides of adventure may not wait?
To appear so suddenly, as glimmers of chance
For wanderers seeking more spirited illumination
In 2014 live well in the slow light of chance
It may prove a glimmer, of what could have been
But it is ever radiant enough to navigate hope
Open the night and make a wish on your star
Because we who see; worry not for the future
