Soft drawn breath escapes in plumes of moisture
Through a mouth held expectant and captive to cool air
This February night in the midst of winters embrace
It takes away our frustration of the darker nights
With the promise of a lighter heart with coming spring
It is so close we can almost now hear its awakening
Listen intently to the beating of your eager heart
And begin to mark time away in this declining season
For the race is up and the world once again renews
And I would see it all, every blade of grass and sunbeam
For I have waited a winter to taste these changing days
