Dreams

We cannot follow our dreams
They do not belong to us
These children of awful chance
We birthed them in instance
Then watched them fly away
As desperate siblings of hope
Disconnected and complete
And then all we may do is wait
Linger in our glorious vanity
That one may return full grown
To blaze again new trails
Into our fading, twilight fires
When all our dreams are spent
