Bloom

That bloomed in all peaceful days
In the west the calyx of splendour
Soft, rose-scented velveteen; fades
Petals fall and drift to histories floor
But so open the new red blossoms
Rolled-up petals of modernity; unfolding
Brightening all the Orient with hope
But of thorny stems that grow apace
Matching hopes flowers in spiteful thorn
What buds shall they bear us?
And will beauty be even a care
When they open fully into day
