Went to Carlisle on Saturday and then off to see (what’s left) of Hadrian’s Wall. Carlisle is a convenient base from which to explore Hadrian's Wall. Several sections of the wall still exist, and the remains of some of the Roman forts along the wall have been excavated and may be visited (the nearest one to Carlisle is Birdoswald Fort). Hadrian's Wall was a Roman frontier built in the years AD 122-30 by order of the Emperor Hadrian. It was 73 miles long and ran from Wallsend-on-Tyne in the east to Bowness on the Solway Firth in the west.

Actually it was fascinating really to think that the stones and mortar were laid out almost 2000 years ago. Weather was not too cold or gloomy either although the tea shops at the wall were closed…hope you enjoy the pictures.

The 2 down and outs resting on the wall just happened to be there at the same time. Having an unshaven moment there.
